A veteran employee of Walmart’s shipping department has shared some crucial secrets of saving while shopping at the superstore. The unidentified employee who has been with Walmart for nine years shared the pro tips last week, speaking to Nasdaq. The advice comes on the back of a $45 million class action lawsuit settlement regarding customers being overcharged. The settlement entitles customers to a $500 cashback provided they present the receipts of the overcharged weighted goods bought in the last five years. For the customers who may not get the cashback, here are the tips to save money while shopping at Walmart.

Walmart’s app offers several benefits to shoppers. The app lets customers search for rollback deals, save receipts automatically, access the Savings Spotlight section, and more. Apart from this, the app offers discount coupons and often personalizes them to a person’s shopping habits. The veteran employee recommended shoppers enable push notifications to get alerts of clearance events, flash sales, and exclusive mobile coupons. “It’s your ticket to deals and discounts right in your pocket,” the employee told Nasdaq.

According to the covert warehouse worker, among Walmart’s Clearance Sales, some “serious” clearance sales offer the best deals. The employee recommends shoppers get their timing right to save the most. According to the secret informer, the real clearance sales happen on Tuesdays when the aisles transform into “bargain goldmines.” The employee recommended looking for yellow stickers ending with a 5 or 0 to ensure that the best deals are on. The informer said Tuesday’s inventory changeover routines offer the freshest price cuts on several items.

There is another handy feature in the Walmart app that offers express checkouts for customers when the lines get too long. The “Scan & Go” feature of the app allows shoppers to scan items directly in their carts while shopping for items. The built-in mobile checkout method can help shoppers cut the hassle and “breeze straight through the exit,” when they are finished shopping. This feature can be a boon for shoppers on busy days, especially on weekends when the superstore is the busiest.

According to the secret informer, it is an absolute must to steer clear of shopping at Walmart on weekends and evenings to avoid huge crowds and protect their own sanity. “The store is much calmer then,” the Walmart staffer told Nasdaq. The employee recommends shoppers go in the morning to avoid swarms of families and after-work shoppers. Furthermore, shopping late at night is also a viable option as the after-work shopper rush dies down by then.

Surprisingly, the bright yellow Rollback signs scattered across Walmart’s shelves do not always mean that customers are getting the best deals. While these signs offer clues to shoppers about the slashed prices, the secret informer recommends vetting the deals before bagging them. “Not all Rollbacks are created equal,” the employee cautioned. The employee asked shoppers to make sure they compare the prices with fellow competitors, even Amazon, and to the previous prices to make sure that the deal is real.
